Getting to Birmingham
Birmingham's central location means that it has developed into one of Britain's primary transport hubs. This is good news for visitors, who are presented with a range of transport methods to and from the Mid-Western city.
Air
Birmingham is served by Birmingham International Airport, with an extensive range of flights to the rest of Britain, Ireland, Continental Europe, North America and Asia. In 2009 it was the sixth busiest airport in the UK, with Bmibaby, Flybe, Monarch Airlines, Ryanair and Thomson Airways all providing extensive links to the rest of Europe. Long-Haul airlines serving the airport include Air Transat, Emirates and Continental Airlines.
There are several methods of transportation available to and from the airport. The Airport is served by Birmingham International station. The station is on the West Coast Main Line between Birmingham and London. London Midland and Virgin Trains operate from Birmingham New Street station to Birmingham International station approximately every ten minutes, with a journey time of around ten minutes. National Express West Midlands operates the main bus routes calling at Birmingham Airport, those being the 900 to Birmingham city centre and Coventry, and the 966 to Erdington and Solihull. Other smaller operators also call at the airport. Bus stops are situated outside Terminal One.
Train
The main station is New Street, with Snow Hill and Moor Street hosting a smaller number of services. Main destinations include Britain's major cities, including Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Manchester, and Sheffield. Please see the National Rail website for more information.
Bus
Megabus and National Express offer frequent services to several large British cities, including London, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Manchester.
Getting Around
Local public transport is by bus, local train and tram operated by Network West Midlands. National Express West Midlands operate the majority of bus services in Birmingham, while the city has a single metro line, running between Snow Hill Station and Wolverhampton, via the Jewellery Quarter, West Bromwich, Wednesbury and Bilston. A plentiful supply of taxis are also available.
